Long long time ago someone asked if this was Mexican cheese? He had never seen this Chinese steamed pastry before which is widely eaten by northern Chinese in China and also gets popular later in Taiwan.

Hand-made mantou

Hand-made mantou (Noodle House 麵香園 in Monterey Parks) The lady owner 老闆娘 had a big smile when I asked to buy 5 of them again. She said, "I thought only us northern people eat mantou, but you like it, too." I told her that when we were in the military training, the breakfast every morning included soybean milk and mantou which were hand-made by veteran soldiers from China. Naturally I have developed a taste for such a pastry delicacy." (note: the owner's family are from Tian-jin 天津, neighboring with Ching-dao 青島 the German occupied city before 1949)

Hand-made Mantou (Chinese Steamed Pastry)

I wanted to pick two prettiest looking mantou they made by hand, but she (store owner) did not agree. She was right. The nature of handcrafted things is they all have flaws one way or the other. So are we since we are handcrafted by God. Each person is different and each has his own flaws
